While it is easy to focus on the fixed costs of health care, there are several ways to save on the incidentals, starting with where you go for immediate care.
Choose your immediate care wisely. The medical care you choose in a pinch could cost more than you think. When you or a loved one is sick or injured, you just want medical attention as fast as possible. Remember, going to the Wellness Center costs only $15-$30 depending on your health insurance plan.
Choose LiveHealth Online (telehealth option) for convenience and cost savings. Consult a doctor via your phone, tablet or computer for illnesses such as colds, flu, allergies and sinus infections. PPO plan members have a $15 copay, and Anthem HSA and HDHP/HRA plan members have a $49 flat fee. Behavioral health services also are available with fees up to $175 per visit. Take steps to manage chronic illnesses. Chronic conditions are less complex and costly when effectively managed. Your health care provider can help you find the right resources.
Take advantage of free preventive care. An annual physical and other preventive screenings can detect problems before they become serious.
Consider generic prescriptions. They contain the same active/key ingredients as brand-name drugs, have the same strength and dosage form, and are much less expensive. You can go to the Wellness Center pharmacy for other needs as well.
