For All Employees Immediately Upon Hire
University of Notre Dame 403(b) Retirement Plan: The University of Notre Dame 403(b) Retirement Plan is the University’s Universal Availability Plan in that it provides all employees the opportunity to save for retirement.
It is a defined contribution plan that allows employees to make voluntary pre-tax or Roth after-tax contributions for retirement savings.

For Non-exempt Staff Hired Prior to July 1, 2016
Employees’ Pension Plan: The UND Employees’ Pension Plan was closed to new entrants effective December 31, 2017. Non-exempt participants who elected, as part of the 2017 Retirement Plan Choice offering, to remain in the Pension Plan continue to earn credited service toward retirement. This is a defined benefit plan and is fully funded by the University.

Social Security/Medicare
Both the University and employees contribute an equal amount to Social Security and Medicare. These combined contributions help pay for your retirement, disability, survivor, and medical benefits. The University contributes 6.2% of your earnings (up to the Social Security maximum) each year toward Social Security and 1.45% to Medicare.
