Educational Benefits for Faculty, Staff, Retirees and Spouses

The University supports a number of scholarships and tuition remission programs to help faculty, staff, retirees and spouses meet their personal and professional goals.

Tuition Remission Benefits

Full-time faculty, staff, post-doctoral research associates, interns, visiting faculty, spouses as well as retired faculty, staff and spouses can use the tuition remission benefits towards Notre Dame graduate or undergraduate credits. This educational benefit provides 100 percent tuition remission for one undergraduate or graduate-level course up to three credits per semester. 

Tuition Reimbursement Benefit

Full-time staff may use this benefit for non-Notre Dame programs. The tuition reimbursement benefit provides reimbursement for courses taken at an accredited institution as defined by the College Board towards an undergraduate or graduate degree. The maximum tuition reimbursement for the fiscal year (July 1 - June 30) is $5,250. This program also covers reimbursement for job-related certification or trade training. The maximum reimbursement for eligible certifications and trade training is $1,000 per fiscal year.

Scholarship Funds (Fred Freeman)

The Fred E. Freeman Staff Scholarship is available to eligible non-exempt staff and can be used toward post-secondary education, certification, or a college degree.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) is a program available to borrowers employed full-time in a public service job. As a not-for-profit organization that is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, the University of Notre Dame is a qualifying employer for this program.

Educational Benefits for Children

The University provides tuition assistance to the children of eligible faculty and staff who are attending Notre Dame, Saint Mary's or any other accredited four-year institution, including benefits that apply during the Summer Session
