After 60 years of continuous, dedicated service, the iconic Morris Inn closed its doors on October 21, 2012 to undergo an extensive expansion and renovation. When it reopens at the end of August, members of the Notre Dame community, parents, alumni, and our many visitors and guests from all over the world will be warmly welcomed back to the “living room” of the University.
Among many other new amenities, the new Morris Inn will feature:
- An increase in the number of guestrooms to 150, including 18 beautifully-appointed suites
- A new, expanded south wing with a 4th floor
- A 300-seat ballroom and adjacent pre-function space with separate entrance at north end of building
- Three new private dining rooms
- A new pub located off the newly enlarged lobby
- An outdoor terrace with patio and garden on the west side.
Sorin’s Restaurant will re-open in its original location.
Morris Inn aspires to be the region’s only four-diamond hotel and restaurant facility. “Our guests will have the highest expectations for service,” says Morris Inn and Notre Dame Conference Center Director Joe Kurth, “and we will deliver.”
Over 120 employment positions will be available at Morris Inn. While many of those positions are expected to be filled by previous Morris Inn employees returning from their temporary campus assignments during renovations, it is expected that some 50-75 positions will be filled by additional applicants from the community. Applications will be accepted for all positions, including Banquet Servers and Captains, Bellperson/Valets, Bartenders, Cooks, Custodians, Dining Room Attendants, Guest Services Associates, Hosts/Hostesses, Housepersons, Maintenance, Pantry Associates, Room Attendants, Servers, and Service Associates/Stewards.
Applicants are invited to apply online at jobs.nd.edu. Morris Inn job postings are expected to be available online beginning Wednesday, June 12.
The Morris Inn was originally built with a gift from Ernest M. and Ella L. Morris. Now, a gift from their daughter has made this renovation possible. “Thanks to the generosity and leadership of longtime Notre Dame friends, Ernestine Raclin and her family, The Morris Inn is now positioned to continue the University’s tradition of outstanding hospitality, service and excellence,” said John Affleck-Graves, executive vice president.
The Inn is scheduled to re-open August 29. For a sneak-preview, see the videos below.
