Reminder: graduation may affect dependent eligibility

Published: May 05, 2014

If you have a graduating child covered under your dental, vision, or dependent life insurance plans, take note: Dependent children may remain on these plans from age 19 up to the age of 25, as long as they are unmarried and remain in full-time student status. Full-time student status is classified as 12 credit hours or more.

If your child loses eligibility, their coverage will terminate at the end of the calendar month in which they lose eligibility. (For example, if your child graduates on May 18, coverage will end on May 31.)

To remove a dependent child, please complete and submit a Benefits Change Form (PDF) within 31 days following the qualifying event. Any dependent who loses coverage due to eligibility will be offered an opportunity to continue this coverage through COBRA.
