Supplemental Retirement Account
The Supplemental Retirement Account (SRA) allows faculty, administrators, and staff to make voluntary contributions on a tax-deferred basis to a 403(b) tax sheltered account. You may choose to invest your contributions with Fidelity Investments, TIAA-CREF, or The Vanguard Group. Your contributions are automatically deducted from your paycheck before taxes.
The minimum amount that you may contribute to your SRA is $10 per month or $120 per year. The maximum amount per year that you may defer is as follows:
Year Maximum** Age 50* Total Maximum**
2008 $15,500 + $5,000 = $20,500
*If you turn age 50 before the end of the calendar year, you may defer the additional amount.
**These maximums assume that you are not making contributions to a retirement plan maintained by an employer other than the University during the calendar year.
Once you reach age 59 ½ or when you leave the University, you may withdraw your funds from your SRA . If you participate with TIAA-CREF, you may be able to take a loan against your SRA at any time without penalty. To request information about loan options or to apply for a loan, contact TIAA-CREF at 1-800-842-2776 or visit http://www.tiaa-cref.org/.
