Educational Benefits for Children of Employees – Summer Classes

The following guidelines apply to educational benefits for summer classes that children of employees may wish to take at the University of Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s College or another four-year accredited college or university.

The University of Notre Dame or Saint Mary’s College

The following supplements the Education Benefits Policies for Notre Dame Tuition and Saint Mary’s Tuition.

  • The summer benefit of three credit hours applies to either Notre Dame or Saint Mary’s, and cannot be used at both.
  • Only one summer benefit may be used per summer for eligible children who have not yet attained a bachelor’s degree.
  • If the child is attending a Notre Dame sponsored abroad program during the summer, the reimbursement amount will be the value of three Notre Dame undergraduate credit hours only.
  • Each child is eligible only for the benefits described in the policy, regardless of whether one or both parents are employed at Notre Dame.
  • If the child is a graduating high school senior admitted to college, they are eligible.
  • Even if summer is the first time the student is receiving the benefit, it does not count as a full semester used.

Other Four-year Accredited College or University

The following supplements the Educational Benefits Policy for Other Colleges and Universities.

  • If dollars are remaining from the fall & spring semesters, summer classes will be reimbursed only up to the remaining amount available (this is typically the summer after the benefit has been used for fall and/or spring; it does not count as a semester used).
  • Each child is eligible only for the benefits described in the policy, regardless of whether one or both parents are employed at Notre Dame.
  • If summer is the first time the student is receiving the other college benefit, it will count as a full semester used.
  • If the child is a graduating high school senior admitted to college, they are eligible but it does count as a full semester used.
  • Students using the “other college” benefit can take one class at Notre Dame or Saint Mary’s according to the guidelines for those programs.
